5 on 5 Basketball Rules
All 2006 National Federation High School rules will govern
play with exception of the following:
Timing
* The game will consist of two 20-minute halves, 3 minute halftime,
and 2-minute overtime if necessary.
* The clock will run non-stop in the first half and until the final
two minutes of the second half.
* During the last two minutes of the second half ONLY, the clock will
stop on all dead balls.
* An official or team time-out will stop the clock during the first
half or the first 18 minutes of the second half.
* Time-outs will last one minute and half-time will last three minutes.
Teams have four (4) time-outs per game [to clarify, there will be two
per half = four per game].
Uniforms
* Each team MUST have matching, numbered jerseys for every player. Legal
numbers are expanded to include 0-99. A non-numbered jersey will not
be allowed as a "00".
* Your team captain will specify your team's color at the time of registration.
The colors of other teams in your league will also be listed. If you
are the same color as an opponent, it is the sole responsibility of
the teams to resolve the conflict before showing up to the game. There
will be no "Shirts vs Skins" or taped-on numbers. Your team
will forfeit if it fails to have the proper jersey at game time.
Fouls
* A player is allowed 5 fouls of any kind.
* Two technical fouls on a player will result in an automatic ejection
from the game. The ejected player must also leave the building.
* No basket may be scored on a player control (charging) foul, regardless
of when the ball is released.
* Teams will enter the bonus on the 7th team foul. On a teams 10th foul,
all fouls will result in two free throws.
* Any player fouled on a 3-point attempt and the basket not good will
be allowed to shoot three free throws.
* The following behaviors will result in a technical foul and the possibility
of a game suspension. Cursing at the officials, supervisors, or opposing
players Insulting the officials, supervisors, or opposing players, Participating
in a fight (AUTOMATIC EJECTION) Other unsportsmanlike acts will also
earn a technical foul. All unsportsmanlike fouls result in two free
throws and the ball, regardless of whether the foul is on a player or
the bench.
* Slapping the backboard is not a technical in itself, but intentionally
hitting the backboard hard enough to alter the flight of the ball will
result in a technical. ?Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
* 3 Total team Techniclas will equal a forfeited game and a zero in
sportsmanship.
Captain
* Only one captain per team is permitted.
* Maximum number allowed on any roster is 10.
Mercy Rule
* There will be a 35-point mercy rule after 10 minutes in the second
half. In the judgment of the officials and supervisor, if a team is
dragging or allows the team behind to make up baskets so the game will
not be stopped, the game will be stopped immediately.
Substitutes
* Substitutes must report to the score's table and beckoned in by the
officials. Illegal substitutions will result in a technical foul.
