
Sand Volleyball
ALL POINTS WILL BE SCORED UNDER RALLY SCORING
Standard Intramural Volleyball rules shall be used, with
the following exceptions:
1.1
Each team shall consist of four (4) players on the court at a time,
with a maximum of eight (5) players on the roster.
1.2
Only one player from the Volleyball Club is eligible to be on a roster.
1.3
All players on the court are eligible to spike the ball.
1.4
A double-block by the receiving team during the serve is legal.
1.5
Players may unintentionally go under the net legally, provided they
do not interfere with the opposing players.
1.6
Teams shall serve the ball overhand or underhand.
1.7
Singular ball contact with any part of the body is legal.
1.8
The winner must win two out of three games, with games played to 15
points.
1.9
A non-deciding game (games 1 and 2)of a match will be played under "rally
scoring", awarding a point on each service and is won when a team
reaches 15 points and has at least a two-point advantage over its opponents.
No games shall exceed 17 points.
1.10
In the event of 16-16 tie, the first team to reach 17 will win the game.
1.11
The deciding game of a match will be played under "rally scoring",
awarding a point on each service. When a fault is committed by the receiving
team, the serving team scores a point. When a fault is committed by
the serving team, the receiving team scores a point.
1.12
The first team to reach 15 with an advantage of two points will win
the match. There will be no point cap in rally-scoring games.
1.13
Shoes are not required. Rules will be USA Volleyball WITH SOME EXCEPTIONS:
Rules:
1.)Players: Each team must start the game with four players. (At least
2 players must be women for CO-Recreational).
2.)Injury: If a player is injured the team does not have any substitute,
the team may finish the game with less than four players
3.)Protest: Any protest must be made right away with Intramural Supervisor.
Once the play continues, the protest will not be accepted. Protest concerning
player eligibility will be decided by the Intramural Coordinator.
4.)Officials: A monitor will keep score and make necessary calls. The
monitor will settle any disputes when two sides can not agree on something.
5.)Scoring: Games will be the best 2 out of 3 to 11 points with side
outs.
6.)Serving: A member of the serving team must not distract the opposing
team or form a screen during the service.
7)On a hard driven ball, a defensive player may use any part of his/her
body to play the ball.
8.)Net Play: A player may go under the net while playing the net as
long as he or she does not interfere with the other players on the other
side.
9.)Beach Digs: Beach digs will be allowed.
10.)Rotation: No rotation is necessary as long as players are following
the service order. POINTS OR "SIDE OUT": If any member of
the receiving team commits an infraction, "1" point is awarded
to the serving side; if the infraction is made by the serving team,
a "side out" is called.
SERVICE:
1.)Choice of which team serves first at the start of the game is determined
by the TOSS OF A COIN. The winner of the toss gets the serve or choice
of court.
2.)A server continues as a server until "side out" is called.
After "side out", opponent becomes the server.
3.)S/he must strike the ball with one hand clearly over the net so that
if untouched, it would land within the opponent's court.
4.)A server ball cannot hit the net (side out).
RECEIVING AND RETURNING, PLAYING THE BALL:
1) On serve, the ball must be received with "bump"pass.
2) A return that passes over that part of the net between the sidelines
is in play.
3) A return may be recovered from the net provided the player avoids
contact with the net.
4.)After once contacting the ball, a player cannot touch it again until
it has been touched by another player. (Exception: a block touch doesn't
count as a hit).
5.)No double hits are allowed.
6.)The ball may not be thrown.
7.)A "hard driven" ball from an attack or from a blocked ball
rebounding back into the attacker's court may be contracted multiple
times in succession by a player if these contacts occur during one attempt
to play the ball. This counts as one team contact. A "hard driven"
ball may never be carried or allowed to come to rest.
OTHER INFRACTIONS NOT PREVIOUSLY CITED INCLUDE:
1.)Serving illegally or out of turn.
2.)Catching or holding the ball on failing to make a legal return.
3.)Touching it twice in succession.
4.)Contacting the net or reaching over it while the ball is in play.
A player is not considered to have contacted the net if a hard driven
causes it to touch him/her.
(NOTE: should two opponents contact the net simultaneously, neither
is penalized; it is a replay.)
5.)Reaching under the net and touching the ball or opponent while the
ball is in the opponent's court.
6.)Touching the ball when it has already been touched three times on
your side.
