SOFTBALL
RULES
We
will play using USSSA Rules with the following modifications:

1. Games will be 6 innings or a 55 minute time limit.
2. Once an inning is started it must be finished if time runs out.
3. Run rule will be 20 after 3 innings of play, 15 after 4 innings of
play and 10 after 5 innings of play.
4. Once a pitcher touches the pitching rubber he/she has 5 seconds to
release the ball.
5. Flat pitches are legal, although not recommended.
6. A team is allowed 3 home runs per game. After that each fair ball that
is hit over the fence is an OUT.
7. Game time is start time.
8. All participants must sign a waiver before they will be allowed to
play.
9. A valid TECH ID must be shown at the time the player signs in. Each
participant must sign for themselves.
10. There will be batter boxes, either chalked or removed. The box is
still considered to be there.
11. ONLY Twelve (12) players will be the maximum that will be allowed
on a roster.
12. ONLY Six (6) varsity players are allowed to be on the same roster.
Varsity Baseball and Softball players are not allowed to participate.
13. Teams must use ten (10) players in the field. Team must have at least
nine players to start. When a team plays with less than ten players, an
out will be recorded with the open batter's turn at bat. (Note: can add
tenth player at anytime). All players are eligible to hit. Players do
not have to play in the field to hit. Once a player leaves the batting
order, he/she cannot re-enter the game.
14. ONLY officially approved SLOW PITCH bats will be allowed.
15. Men will play with a 12’ ball and the women with 11’ balls.
These balls must have blue stitching with no specified logo or dots.
16. Each team will hit the ball that is given by the umpire, which means
it could be either team’s ball.
17. Each team MUST provide two balls prior to each contest. These balls
must be in playable shape. Please mark your provided ball so that they
may be given back at the end of the game.
18. It is the responsibility of the teams at bat to retrieve foul and
out of the park balls in an immediate and quick manner to preserve the
pace of the game.
19. Extra innings will be determined by INTERNATIONAL RULES. The last
out of the previous inning will be placed at second base. The batting
order will be the same and the inning will be played accordingly. Each
team will do this until the game has a declared winner. This will done
for all innings after six (6).
20. ONLY All-University Championship games will be played with all six
(6) innings and no allotted time limit.
21. Each participant must have a numbered jersey. Although the jerseys
do not have to match.
22. Each batter will start with a 1 and 1 count. One (1) courtesy foul
will be allowed after that it will be strike three.
THE OFFICIALS
The duties of the officials shall include time keeping and officiating.
There will be an official scorekeeper and time keeper. The officials shall
conduct the game in accordance with the official rules. The officials
shall penalize any player, or substitute for unsportsmanlike conduct by
immediate ejection and banishment from the playing area. Prior to the
game, the referee shall perform a coin toss to determine ball possession.
The official shall signal the ball in play to begin the game. The referee
shall have power to make decisions on any point not specifically covered
in the rules.
